Getting more life out of your air conditioning unit using a compressor saver

How Can I Get More Life Out of My Air Conditioning Unit? Most people do not know about how vital a compressor saver is when it comes to helping their AC units last longer. Well, a compressor saver is an excellent electrical device that you attach to your air conditioning unit’s condensing section. It is the compressor saver that allows your air conditioning unit’s compressor to start up faster and use less power when processing.

Because of the compressor saver’s ability to start the AC’s compressor quickly as well as reduce power usage, it increases the life of your air conditioning unit.

First, it reduces the cost of air conditioning service calls that can be caused by power damages when used in excessive supply as well as reducing the energy intake of your unit, which sometimes leads to electric shocks.

Apart from using a compressor saver, getting more life out of your air conditioning unit can be gained from doing the following:

·      Cleaning your AC’s outdoor unit

AC’s outdoor part needs to be free from weeds and mulch. It is also wise and vital to get more life of any air conditioning unit by making sure it is installed while sitting in a level that is flat and higher on the ground to prevent water from pooling in its bottom when it rains.

·      Use AC’s fans

During days when its moderately warm, all you need to do to get more life out of your air conditioning unit is using fans. A fan keeps your AC unit comfortable and relaxed in the afternoons until it cools down. In case you decide to use a fan by putting it by the window, use the windows that are on the shady side of your house to allow drawing in cooler air.

·      Regularly inspect airflow to get more life out of my air conditioning unit

To make sure an AC conditioning unit lives longer, airflow inspection should be a regular act. Preferred Services can make sure your Air conditioning unit’s areas around its vents are clear to prevent blocking airflow. Also,if doing this yourself, inspect both outlets and return air grilles.

Inspecting your unit’s airflow is aimed at preventing air blocking obstructions such as furniture and drapes that can effectively stop air from coming in. Lastly, when inspecting airflow, remember to check the AC’s dampers if they are all open on the airway and vacuum way.

·      Using a dryer especially at night

If you want to get more life out of your air conditioning unit, using your clothes dryer is an excellent option, especially at night. A dryer works by blowing air out of the house, thus allowing more fresh air to be drawn into the house. The cleaner the air that is drawn into the house, the better and efficiently your air conditioning unit is going to work. When the air conditioning unit gets to filter fresh and clear air without disturbances, there is less dust and dirt that blocks it filters, thus increasing its longevity.

·      Turning off Humidifiers to get more life out of my air conditioning unit

Most humidifies, especially the By-pass models, when set on or put on their winter modes, add moisture to the surrounding air. To help keep your HVAC unit from running longer and wearing out, turn humidifiers off frequently or put them on summer modes before starting your air conditioner. Once humidifier functioning is regulated, air conditioning units tend to last longer than usual.

Rick Cubas:
Good morning, Coachella Valley. Rick Cubas here, owner of Preferred Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing, coming at you live with another session of Preferred pointers. Today we’re here at the Preferred Air Conditioning actual live technician lab, here with my good friend and field advisor, TJ. Hi, TJ. Say hello.

TJ:
Hey. Nice to see you guys.

Rick Cubas:
So he’s going to talk to us a little bit about what’s called the compressor saver or also known as a hard-start kit in the technical world. He’s going to talk to you a little bit about how it’s going to save you some money in the long run in regards to your air conditioning system. TJ, take it away.

TJ:
All right. See, this is a hard-start kit, also known as a compressor saver. What this does is help on the startup of the system. You have a lot of electricity that is sent to the compressor once it starts, and this right here will help take a lot of that energy and actually lower and reduce the amperage when it starts up.

And the way this works is it actually gets installed here on the capacitor. Also, on the capacitor you have a compressor side, and that’s where these two leads will come in handy, right here. So this is going to be your common wire. This is going to be your hermetic wire that goes onto the compressor of the capacitor.

And this goes on the high voltage side of the contactor. I always put it on the black side. And what this will do is actually there’s a mounting bracket with it there. And there’s also another piece that comes with a clamp that you can sit under here and just wire it up.

TJ:
Once you’re testing your amperage, you’ll notice on a lot lower amps once it starts. It is going to reduce the amount of amperage that it takes to start.

Rick Cubas:
And so the case for reducing the amount of amperage it takes to start, what is that doing for the air conditioner itself?

TJ:
That is prolonging the life of the system and not making it work as hard.

Rick Cubas:
Good. So ultimately saving the customer a bunch of money?

TJ:
Yes, sir.

Rick Cubas:
Great. Thanks again, TJ. We appreciate it. Until next time, Coachella Valley. See you soon.
